Ingredients

  • 600 g floury potatoes (Maris Piper, Russet, King Edward, or Desiree)
  • 60 g melted butte
  • tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  • Peel the potatoes and grate them using a box grater or a food processor. Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel or muslin cloth and squeeze out as much moisture as possible.
  • In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, melted butter, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Divide the potato mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. You have the option to use a ring cutter for perfectly round patties, or you can keep them rustic.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (360°F). Take out the grate from the bottom and brush the air fryer basket with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  • Place the hash brown patties in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each patty to allow for even cooking.
  • Cook the patties in the air fryer for 14-16 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.

Notes

  • Choose the Right Potatoes: Opt for floury potatoes like Maris Piper, Russet, King Edward, or Desiree for the best texture in your hash browns.
  • After grating the potatoes, squeeze out as much moisture as possible using a clean kitchen towel. This will help your hash browns crisp up nicely in the air fryer.
  • Don't skimp on seasoning! Add a good amount of salt and freshly ground black pepper to enhance the flavor of your hash browns.
  • Incorporating melted butter into the potato mixture adds richness and helps achieve a crispy exterior on your hash brown patties.
  • To prevent sticking and help browning, lightly brush the air fryer basket with olive oil before air frying.
  • Arrange the hash brown patties in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving some space between each patty for proper air circulation.
  • For evenly cooked hash browns, flip them halfway through the cooking time to ensure both sides get crispy and golden brown.
