Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lb sweet potatoes (680 grams)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp cumin

Instructions

  • Wash and dry the sweet potatoes well. Peel them if you prefer, or leave the skin on for a bit more texture.
  • Cut the sweet potatoes into ½-inch/1½ cm cubes.
  • Place the diced sweet potatoes in a large bowl.
  • Add the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Toss everything together until the cubes are evenly coated. A bowl makes this much easier than trying to season them in the air fryer basket.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F / 200°C for 3 minutes if your model needs preheating.
  • Place the seasoned sweet potato cubes in the air fryer basket in a single layer. A little overlap is fine, but do not pack the basket too full. Cook in two batches if needed.
  • Air fry for 12 to 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking. The sweet potatoes are ready when they feel soft in the middle and have some color around the edges.
  • Serve them straight away, or finish with chopped parsley, cilantro, a squeeze of lime juice, or a spoonful of yogurt sauce if you like.

Notes

  • Cut the sweet potatoes into similar-sized cubes so they cook evenly.
  • Do not cut the cubes too small, as they can dry out before the middles soften.
  • Dry the sweet potatoes well before seasoning.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if needed.
  • Garlic powder works better than fresh garlic because fresh garlic can burn in the air fryer.
  • Add fresh herbs, lemon juice, lime juice, or maple syrup after cooking.
  • Cooking time can change depending on your air fryer model and the size of the cubes.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F / 175°C for 3 to 5 minutes.
