Lamb is a rich, flavorful cut of meat that adds a touch of elegance to any meal. We love it in recipes like this Lamb Goulash, Turkish Lamb Stew, or even spiced Lamb Shish Kebabs.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Lamb chops – Lamb cutlets, also known as lamb rib chops or rack of lamb, are one of the most prized and expensive cuts of lamb. The meat is incredibly tender and naturally sweet. This recipe works well with lamb loin chops too.
- Olive Oil – I use a good quality cooking olive oil to help the seasoning stick and add a subtle richness.
- Flavorings – Simple mixture of salt, pepper, and dried thyme is my favorite seasoning for such a delicate cut. You can also use fresh or dried rosemary if you are after a stronger seasoning.
How to Make Air Fryer Lamb Rib Chops
Important Note
Before you start cooking, note that times may differ among air fryers. I develop my recipes using a Cosori 6.8 air fryer. If you’re using a different air fryer, view my recipes as a general guide and tweak the cooking time—add a bit more or cook slightly less as needed.
Cooking lamb rib chops in an air fryer is easy, quick, and fuss-free. However, it’s important to follow these simple steps to achieve the best results:
Prepare your rack of lamb with portioning them into individual cutlets. You can also buy them already prepared to make things quicker!
Pat the lamb chops dry with a paper towel to help the seasoning stick. Rub them with olive oil, then season generously with dried thyme, salt, and pepper on both sides.
Set your air fryer to 400°F (205°C) and let it preheat for a few minutes. Preheating ensures even cooking and a nice sear on the outside of the chops. Place the seasoned lamb chops in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they don’t overlap.
Cook for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through. Adjust the cooking time if you prefer them more or less done.
Quick Tip!
For medium-rare cooked lamb rib chops, aim for an internal temperature of 135°F (57°C).
Remove the lamb chops from the air fryer and let them rest for 5 minutes. This helps the juices redistribute, keeping the meat tender.
Expert Tips From the Chef
- Use a Meat Thermometer: For perfectly cooked lamb, use a thermometer to check the internal temperature. Medium-rare is 135°F, medium is 145°F, and well-done is 160°F.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Basket: Leave space between the chops for proper air circulation and even cooking.
- Marinate for Extra Flavor: If you have time, marinate the lamb chops for an hour or two in olive oil, garlic, rosemary, and lemon juice. It adds extra depth to the flavor.
- Let Them Rest: Always rest the lamb chops for a few minutes before serving to keep them juicy.
How to Serve Air Fryer Lamb Chops?
Air fryer lamb chops are versatile and pair well with a variety of sides. Serve with Carrot Fries in Air Fryer, 20 Minutes Air Fryer Sweet Potato Wedges, or Air Fryer Home Fries (Diced Breakfast Potatoes) for a balanced meal.
A bowl of fresh Greek Cucumber Salad or a side of Rocket Parmesan Salad complements the rich lamb perfectly.
Pair with fluffy couscous, quinoa, or a hearty wild rice pilaf and add a dollop of tzatziki, chimichurri, or mint sauce for extra flavor.
Storing and Reheating
Place cooked lamb chops in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. To freeze, wrap them tightly in cling film or place them in freezer-safe bags and freeze for up to 3 months.
Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3–4 minutes or until warmed through.
