Baking cookies in the air fryer is perfect for those days when you’re craving a homemade treat but don’t want to heat up your kitchen.

Ingredients You’ll Need for Making Cookies in Air Fryer
- Walnuts: Just like Air Fryer Cinnamon Rolls, Air Fryer Apple Crisp Without Oats, and Air Fryer Slice Apples with Cinnamon, walnuts boost both flavor and texture. If you prefer, you can switch them out for pecans, pistachios, or almonds. To intensify their flavor, try lightly toasting them before mixing them into the dough.
- Plain white flour: Also known as all-purpose flour, this type of flour is perfect for baking cookies, cakes, pastries, and thickening sauces. Remember to sift it before adding it to your dough for the best results.
- Butter: Make sure your unsalted butter is softened before starting. Leave it out at room temperature for a couple of hours until it’s nice and soft.
- Icing sugar: Using icing sugar instead of brown sugar helps keep your cookies soft and tender. Its powdery texture, combined with a bit of cornstarch, adds to the cookie’s crumbly texture.
- Vanilla paste: It is optional. I prefer organic vanilla bean paste or extract.

Important Note
Before you start cooking, note that times may differ among air fryers. I develop my recipes using a Cosori 6.8 air fryer. If you’re using a different air fryer, view my recipes as a general guide and tweak the cooking time—add a bit more or cook slightly less as needed.
Making cookies in an air fryer is extremely easy and straightforward. However, you need to follow a few simple steps to achieve the best results:
In a large mixing bowl, add the flour along with the softened butter, icing sugar, vanilla (optional), and crushed walnuts.
Use your fingertips to gently mix them until they come together to form a soft dough.
Next, take a piece of cookie dough about the size of a walnut, roughly 20 grams, and roll it into a ball. Gently flatten the cookie ball and place it onto a baking sheet lined inside the air fryer basket (make sure to remove the grid).
Quick Tip!
I can fit around 14-16 cookies in my air fryer basket. Leave some space, but not too much since the cookies don’t spread much. If your air fryer basket is smaller, do it in batches to avoid overcrowding.
Repeat this process until you’ve used up all the cookie dough. This recipe should give you around 14-16 cookies.
If your air fryer has a bake mode, set it to 330°F (165°C). Bake the cookies for 11-12 minutes, or until they turn slightly golden brown on the edges.
While the cookies are still warm, mix a tablespoon of icing sugar with a teaspoon of cinnamon. Dust this mixture over the cookies for an extra touch of sweetness and flavor.
Expert Tips From the Chef
- For the best flavor, use high-quality, fresh walnuts. Lightly toasting them before adding to the dough can boost their nutty taste.
- Make sure to remove the grid and line the air fryer basket with parchment paper to prevent the cookies from sticking.
- If you need to quickly soften butter and forgot to leave it out, try this trick: Fill a large glass jar with boiling water to heat it up. Once warm, pour out the water and cover the butter with the jar for a few minutes. This will soften the butter efficiently.
- Cookie recipes often require precision, and using a kitchen scale to measure ingredients by weight is the most reliable method to avoid disappointments.
- Mix the dough only until the ingredients are combined to avoid making tough cookies.
- If you have time, chill the dough in the fridge for about 20 minutes before baking to help the cookies keep their shape and enhance the flavors.
- Make sure to leave some space between each cookie on the baking sheet as they will spread a bit while baking.
- Watch the cookies closely as they bake – they should be golden around the edges. Overbaking can make them too hard.
How to Store the Leftovers?
You can store these 4 ingredients air fryer walnut cookies in a cookie jar or a sealed container at room temperature for up to 5 days. For longer storage, refrigerate them for up to a week in a sealed container.
Another option is to freeze the leftover baked cookies in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
Recipe FAQs
The baking time for cookies in an air fryer can vary depending on the recipe and the size of the cookies. Generally, cookies are baked in the air fryer at a temperature of around 325-350°F (160-180°C) for about 8-12 minutes.
However, it’s essential to keep an eye on them towards the end of the baking time to prevent overcooking or burning. Adjust the baking time as needed based on the specific recipe and your air fryer’s performance.
If your air fryer doesn’t have a specific bake mode, you can still bake cookies in air fryer by selecting the appropriate temperature and time settings manually. Consult your air fryer’s user manual for guidance on adjusting the settings for baking.
In most cases, you don’t need to flip the cookies when baking in the air fryer. The hot air circulation inside the air fryer ensures even cooking on all sides of the cookies.
