In Turkey, sweet corn reigns as a popular street food, often grilled over charcoal or boiled in water, and served up with nothing but a generous pinch of salt—no frills, just pure flavor.
During my time there, corn has been our ultimate beach snack and a staple side dish for summer BBQs. But now, living in the UK, where beach-side corn is a rarity, I’ve turned to my trusty air fryer to whip up this delightful treat whenever the season rolls around!
Picking the Best Corns
To pick the perfect corns, look for ears with bright green husks that are tightly wrapped and slightly damp. Peel back a small section of the husk to check that the kernels are plump, evenly spaced, and a vibrant yellow or white color.
Avoid corn with dry or brown husks, missing kernels, or kernels with large gaps between them. Additionally, gently press on the kernels to ensure they are firm and not mushy. Check for wormholes, worms, and bugs.
Finally, give the ear a sniff near the stem end – it should smell sweet and fresh.
How to Air Fry Corn on the Cob?
Important Note
Before you start cooking, note that times may differ among air fryers. I develop my recipes using a Cosori 6.8 air fryer. If you’re using a different air fryer, view my recipes as a general guide and tweak the cooking time—add a bit more or cook slightly less as needed.
Making corn on the cob in the air fryer is straightforward, and all you need is a little olive oil and a generous amount of salt.
Prepare the corn by shucking off the husks and silk, then rinse the ears under cold water.
Next, pat the corn dry with paper towels and lightly brush each ear with olive oil or lightly spray them. Set your air fryer to 400°F (205°C) and place the corns in the basket in a single layer.
Cook for about 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the kernels are tender and slightly charred.
Carefully remove the corn from the air fryer, sprinkle salt over them ensuring it’s evenly distributed.
Quick Tip!
Choose an olive oil spray that spritzes, not aerosol, for your air fryer. Aerosol sprays can damage its non-stick coating.
At this stage, you can add some extra flavourings such as butter, chopped fresh herbs, paprika, chili flakes, or lemon juice.
How to Serve Corn on the Cob Air Fryer?
The most classic way to serve air-fried corn on the cob is hot from the air fryer, with a side of butter and some salt for seasoning.
You can get creative and add other flavourings such as:
Chili powder
Garlic powder
Grated Parmesan cheese
Squeeze of lime or lemon juice
Chopped fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, or chives
Air fryer corn is also a great side dish to serve along with Whole Chicken in Air Fryer with Crispy Skin, Air Fryer Steak Bites and Mushroom, and Easy Homemade Peri Peri Chicken.
Another option is to use a knife to cut the corn kernels off the cobs, then stir the corn into Creamy Chicken Enchiladas or Kumpir (Turkish Baked Potato).
How to Store the Leftovers?
Let the leftovers cool completely to room temperature and place them in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, you can reheat the corn in the microwave or in the air fryer until warmed through.
