Air Fryer English Muffins
Air Fryer English Muffins are a quick way to make a warm breakfast or snack. After about 4 to 5 minutes in the air fryer, the muffins turn lightly golden and are heated through. This easy method is perfect for busy mornings when you want something warm without using a toaster or turning on the oven.

English muffins are already cooked, so the air fryer simply toasts them. The hot air circulates around the bread and creates those lightly golden edges that make English muffins so good with butter, jam, or eggs. Many people also like using them for breakfast sandwiches.

This method is especially helpful if you are making several muffins at once. The air fryer basket holds multiple halves, and they toast evenly in about five minutes.
Ingredients You’ll Need

- English muffins – Regular store-bought English muffins work perfectly. Whole wheat versions also toast nicely in the air fryer.
- Butter – It melts nicely into the warm surface of the muffin after toasting. I spread it right after cooking, so it softens and melts straight away.
- Spreads – My favourites are homemade jam, peanut butter, honey, or cream cheese, which are all popular choices among many.
How to Toast English Muffins in an Air Fryer
Important Note
Before you start cooking, note that times may differ among air fryers. I develop my recipes using a Cosori 6.8 air fryer. If you’re using a different air fryer, view my recipes as a general guide and tweak the cooking time—add a bit more or cook slightly less as needed.
Use a knife to split the muffins in half. Splitting them before cooking helps the inside toast evenly.

Set the air fryer to 200°C (400°F). A short preheat helps the muffins toast quickly. Place the muffin halves in the air fryer basket with the cut side facing up. Leave a little space between each piece, and avoid stacking them. Cook the English muffins for 4–5 minutes at 200°C (400°F). They should look lightly golden and feel crisp on the edges.
Quick Tip!
If you’re using frozen toast bread slices for air frying, there’s no need to defrost them beforehand; you can cook them straight from the freezer! You may need to add a minute or two to the cooking time.
Remove the muffins from the basket and spread butter, jam, or other toppings while they are still warm.

Recipe Tips From the Chef
- Use the cut side facing up so the inside becomes lightly crisp.
- Do not overcrowd the basket. Air needs space to circulate.
- Check at the 4-minute mark. Some air fryers cook a little faster.
- Add butter after cooking. It melts nicely into the warm bread.
Storage Instructions
English muffins store well, which makes this method convenient during the week. Keep unopened muffins in the pantry for several days. Once opened, store them in a sealed bag.
If you want to keep them longer, they freeze very well. Place them in a freezer bag and store for up to 3 months. Frozen muffins can go straight into the air fryer. Add 1–2 extra minutes to the cooking time.
Recipe Variations
Air fryer toasted English muffins can be used in many different ways.
Cheesy English Muffins
After toasting for 3 minutes, add a slice of cheese and cook for another minute until melted.
Garlic Butter Muffins
Spread a little garlic butter on the halves before air frying.
Cinnamon Sugar Muffins
Brush with melted butter after cooking and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
Breakfast Sandwich Base
Top toasted muffins with fried eggs, sliced cheese, bacon or sausage.

Air fryer English muffins work well with many meals.
